Miller Cotton... Biography
(written by him for this site)Hi, my name is Miller Cotton. I was asked to give a bio for our website, so here it is... I got my first tattoo in 1964, when I was 16 years old. Because my major was Art, I watched the tattoo artist very closely and thought, "I could do this." I rounded up all the suckers (volunteers) I could find and practiced extensively. I used the old "needle and string" method. I finally reached the point where I started to receive money for my labor in the form of tips. I joined the Army in 1966, and discovered an endless supply of people to work on. I saved up my money and bought a professional tattoo machine and equipment. Being a heavy equipment operator in the Army, I naturally chose that line of work after my discharge. I continued to tattoo as many people as possible and began to charge for my services. I continued on like this until 1978, when I trained (apprenticed) with two local tattoo artists in the Buffalo area, improving my style and learning alot of the tricks of the trade. This catapulted my talent in the profession. As I improved, I started to receive recognition from professional artists. I hung around every tattoo artist I could find, closely observing each one in action. Even if I didn't particularly care for their work, I paid close attention... there might be something I could use. In 1980, I started to travel and do shows in the New York State area, slowly expanding to the whole country. I began to travel with the EasyRider Shows in 1987, along with Sturgis, Daytona, AM JAM, Harley Rendezvouse, Laconia, and many smaller shows. I have received international recognition, been featured in many magazines and studied with artists from all over the world. I still travel to most of the large parties and events. I have been a tattoo artist for more than 37 years and have worked with many of the world's best tattoo artists. Tattooing has provided a wonderful life for me. I've made many good friends along the way and have many happy memories. I hope you'll visit me at the studio or look for us on the road.
