Body Piercing

What We Do & Why

We implement the use of sterile procedures without clamps with each piercing procedure. By autoclave sterilizing every item which will be used in the piercing procedure immediately prior to use, handling these items using sterile technique, then disposing of everything used, we reduce the risk of disease or infection transmission to you, our client. This allows for faster healing with minimal risk of complications.

Our jewelry for use in new piercings is certified to meet ASTM standards deemed safe for surgical implant materials. This gives you a guarantee that the materials placed in your new piercings have been scientifically tested to be safe for prolonged and repeated wear in the body.

Our piercing techniques do not require the use of clamps, pliers, or other contrivances which may cause damage to the tissue being pierced. By using gentle tissue massage and alignment techniques, we can provide you with a piercing which looks and feels good from day one. Because we do not reuse any piercing implements and follow Infection-Control Standard Practice, we can prevent the spread of diseases such as Hepatitis C.

Our suggested aftercare for new piercings is simple to follow and requires no extra effort on your part. By providing you with a safe, simple, and gentle piercing, we eliminate the need for the use of complicated or risky, untested chemical aftercare regimes.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the topics that we respond to often in the course of daily business.

What should I know about piercing my tongue?

Although the most common response we hear from our clients would be along the lines of,  "That's it?" The results seem to be based primarily on what they bring to the table. Our methods are designed to eliminate any risk or trauma during the procedure, physical or psychological.

Individuals with a strong sense of self and a clear desire to wear a new piece of jewelry go through it effortlessly. We can't work magic and make everyone feel entirely comfortable with changing their bodies. Perhaps it comes down to disconnected emotional and physical states, one racing ahead of the other.

There is quite a mess of misinformation propagated about the piercing process and recovery. Most of what is done in the name of modern piercing is neither safe nor comfortable.

Begin Fresh

First, you want to wear a new piece of jewelry, and in this case to keep it in place, it needs to go through your body. This means a tiny passageway of new skin needs to form in which the jewelry may reside. To prevent the ignominious scourge of infection which beckons, the process must be done with new, freshly autoclave steam sterilized materials.

The jewelry material needs to be tested and ASTM certified to ensure your health and safety. In particular, the jewelry must meet implant material standards to prevent damage from toxins entering the bloodstream and soft tissue. Allergic reaction is exceedingly unlikely, and among the least of our concerns.

Things to Avoid Ahead of Time

Unfortunately, it is common for piercers to neglect aspects of safety that greatly affect your end result. We strive to eliminate the risks on our side. You provide the good sense and awareness to take care of the rest.

  • Chemical solutions do not effectively clean jewelry. Residues are impractical to remove to avoid poisoning, even with at minimum a triple rinse with sterile water. Jewelry should be cleaned by autoclave steam sterilization and kept in a sealed steam sterilization container until the moment of use.

  • Non-sterile gloves are never safe enough to use for piercing, for stitches, catheters or for handling any invasive surfaces inserted under the skin. Sterilized gloves are safe for handling sterilized surfaces, and should be used to maintain asepsis for the piercing.

  • Clamps are unnecessary to hold tissue, and damage it during piercing. Gentle, dry tissue handling, following a light massage makes aligning and holding tongues easy for us.

  • Mouthwash does not effectively degerm tissue to prepare your mouth for piercing. A surgical tissue preparation agent proven safe for mucous membranes should be used.

We use all new disposable equipment:

  • A pointy little cannula designed to open and gently enlarge a tiny incision instantly;
  • A small amount of sterilized gauze to clean, dry and align the tissue to be pierced;
  • Nitrile gloves as barriers for our hands to prepare the area;
  • Sterilized nitrile gloves for the application of jewelry with aseptic technique;
  • ASTM certified implant materials for jewelry;
  • High filtration surgical masks for particulate barriers;
  • Eye protection for barriers against airborne droplets.

We gently massage and align your tissue by hand.

  • We do not use clamps, guns or any other traumatic methods or tools.
  • Putting in the jewelry takes only an instant.
  • After the jewelry is in place, let your skin grow.
  • Healthy saliva will protect it.

Avoid chemical and biological irritants.

Anything that would burn or sting if it got in your eye (mouthwashes, toothpastes, spicy foods, alcohol, smoking, etc.) would interfere with the natural tissue repair and cause trouble for your healing process.

Hydration and good nutrition play a crucial role in healing.

Cold water and healthy food in your system helps you get what you need to make room for your jewelry. Drinking purified water after eating (or drinking other liquids) will also help wash away food residues so they do not break down and encourage biological problems.

A healthy person should have new normal skin after two to four weeks.

When it looks and feels like the surrounding tissue all the way through, the healing should be done.

The process should be possible for you whether or not you can roll your tongue. In fact there are a few good tongue stretching exercises that you can add to your routine depending on your flexibility.

How can I fit bigger jewelry in my piercing?

We highly suggest that you do not tear your piercings by lubricating pointy items of jewelry or other such things. The stretch marks and excess scar tissue make the results unaesthetic compared to encouraging your body to enlarge the piercing naturally.

You should notice that your piercing will be more easily able to fit larger pieces if you work on softening the collagen and elastin bonds in the skin associated with the piercing.

You can remove your jewelry before each time you bathe. You can rinse, dry and massage your earlobes with an oil such as Cocoa Butter, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or Jojoba oil. You are likely to find that the skin is smoother and more elastic after a few days of this.

Tapered jewelry such as the titanium crescent, claw or talon shaped pieces work well, with glass claw shaped tapered crescents performing even better for enlarging lobes starting at 8g and larger. Some allow you to take two gauge steps at a time over a week or two of gentle, natural displacement.

What if my jewelry changes position or rejects?

In regards to the problem of rejection and migration, we have researched and developed the techniques far beyond what we were doing just last year, and continue to improve upon them to rule out negative side effects clients have experienced. An ethical movement forward in what we do benefits everyone who wears jewelry in his or her skin. We do a lot less high risk piercing, practically none at all, because we only want the best for our clients.

A mixture of simplifications, precautions, and better judgment based on the proven clinical and laboratory science make the resulting piercings much more comfortable, infection free, and faster to heal.

The problems most people have had seemed typical of the basic things we are trying to avoid these days by not using rings or loose jewelry at all in new piercings.

We found that the friction, contamination, and chemical irritation greatly impede the comfort and successful healing of your piercing.

The public perception that a ring or loose bar works in a navel piercing remains based on the great number of people with incredibly tolerant immune systems and above average circulation who healed piercings successfully. Based on observing clients in all states of recovery, we narrow down the possible negative effects and their root causes to eliminate problems that people experience during healing and in daily wear. From anatomically proportionate jewelry size to tested and proven materials, from advanced measures to maintain asepsis to state of the art sterilization technology, science forms the foundation of all we do. We constantly work towards a simpler, safer and gentler piercing experience.

We base our suggestions to remove and to reinstall jewelry on our observations and experiences, and the proportion and texture of the tissue. It may change dramatically someday, so we could never rule out the future possibility of wear. Just drop in sometime later on and let us assess how you bounce back. In the meantime, gentle rolling tissue massage can help soften and smooth the scar tissue as physical therapy to improve the odds in your favor.

What should I do for my navel or nipple piercing if I get pregnant?

The best thing to do when you get pregnant is to inform your piercer of your new situation. Since your whole stomach and breasts will change and stretch, you can anticipate some change in your piercing. However, this change varies widely for people. Not everyone changes their jewelry as they progress, but some women find that the most comfortable option for pregnancy isn't the one they started out wearing.

A small percentage of women find that their piercings are rejected from the body, although this is far from the most common occurrence. The process of tissue dehesion sets in usually when the area lacks circulation. If you are experiencing discomfort, let us know so that we can determine more suitable options. It is also a good idea to ask your healthcare practitioner whether or not they allow you to leave the jewelry in during the birth. Our clients and friends have worn jewelry through labor and delivery of all kinds over the last decade. If you will be removing it, we can help you in advance with how to remove and reinsert the jewelry if you are not already familiar with it.

Will I be able to breast feed later if I get a nipple piercing?

Yes, but there are several considerations for the mother or prospective mother-to-be before getting a nipple piercing. Nipple piercing does not prevent breastfeeding from happening. In fact, many lactating women find that a small amount of milk will also come out of the piercing, which is harmless. However, you will want your nipple piercings to be very well healed by the time you conceive. The changes that a woman's body undergoes during pregnancy can make it next to impractical for these piercings to finish healing at that time.

Most mothers choose to remove the jewelry when breastfeeding to avoid injury to the piercing and for maximum comfort for both. Beads, threaded balls, and rings are choking hazards for infants if they come loose accidentally with the motion of feeding. If the piercings are very well healed by the time breastfeeding begins the jewelry may be easily removed and reinserted. If the piercings are not well healed, consistent removal and reinsertion will probably prove to be impossible. Remember to wash your hands with a liquid antibacterial soap before removing the jewelry or touching the piercing. Also, be sure to keep your jewelry on a clean surface, such as in a jewelry pouch or in a disposable cup. If you pregnant, trying to conceive, or nursing and are interested in getting a nipple piercing, wait until you are fully done breastfeeding.
